New captain Mike Pearce joined Whybrow and the pair continued the excellent run-rate as the 100 was passed in the 18th over. Pearce soon departed for a useful 25 including a trademark six. Mike Booker joined Whybrow who was now in total command and the innings accelerated past 200 and then 250. Whybrow reached his ton and Booker his half century. In the last over of the innings with the total on 299 the club record equalling stand of 158 was broken as Whybrow reluctantly departed for an excellent 128 one short of his career best. A final total of 302 was an excellent return.
Bentley mad a spirited start in reply as we returned the wayward bowling that enabled us to start so well. Jon Wilson eventually took the first wicket in the 9th over with the score at 56. The introduction of Matt Francis 2-43 and Evans 0-17 both off 10 overs slowed the run-rate. Paul Harris and Wilson both held good catches off Francis. With the result now in the bag, the intensity in the field drifted and Bentley were allowed to score far too many runs. The returning Jon Wilson claimed another wicket comfortably caught by Michael Dell to finish with 2-38 from 9. Eventually the stiffening Booker entered the attack and his accuracy was rewarded with 3-21 from 4 overs including catches from Pearce & Whybrow as the innings finished some 88 runs short to give Pearce a winning start to his captaincy.

Baddow started very briskly and had a bit of luck early on, which included one poor dropped catch. Skipper Mike Pearce rotated his major bowlers, but could not find anyone to break the stand, the best chance a run-out opportunity after some good fielding by himself. Eventually in the 24th over with the score already at 170 Pearce bowled himself and after a couple of lusty blows claimed 2 wickets in his first over, with catches by Evans & himself. Unusually after dismissing the opener for a hard hitting 109, the number 3 was out 2nd ball for 6! Pearce removed himself one over too late finishing with 2-28 off 2 overs! From there on in runs were harder to come by, but no further breakthrough could be made as Baddow cruised to victory in the 42nd over with the other opener unbeaten on a fine 107. 28th June - Earls Colne Vs Bures - Earls Colne & Bures won by 53 runs
On a very hot Sunday afternoon, which found both the ‘skipper’ and ‘vice’ AWOL - sunning themselves in far flung distant locations, then it fell upon the ‘Chairman’ to rally the troops. With the vultures circling the village church, and the camels queuing up to drink from the adjacent river, then all eyes were on the acting skipper to win the toss – well almost all eyes for Alex Carter had made the most of his cars air conditioning and had travelled to the wrong ground.
Having lost the toss, then Boxted was forced to field – this was to play a major influence on the game, not because of the blistering heat but for the way the pitch deteriorated.
Matt Wilson and Richard Springett opened the attack, and after a shaky start, they soon settled into a rhythm and wickets proceeded to flow, especially from Matt who finished his 10 over spell with 3 wickets. Having used up the athletic bowlers in the side, it fell upon the heavy artillery to disperse the final 25 overs - and so Harris, Francis, and Hainsworth toiled away with the ball – with Harris finishing with 4 – 36, leaving Boxted to chase a score of 177, a score that we all new was 20 or more runs too many and one that would be very difficult to obtain on what was left of the track.
Following a good tea of real ham, and cheese and onion doorstep sandwiches, then Boxted set out to bat.
With the vultures still circling - then they must have thought their luck was in, when out stepped the opening pair of Matt Francis and Justin Hainsworth, however, whether it was the thought of being an early snack or the first victims of the track, then both were soon out with only 2 over’s bowled.
Unfortunately the batting got no better, with only John Wilson and Alex Carter (having finally turned up) being the exceptions.
All in all, Boxted did not perform well on the day; however, credit must go to Earls Colne & Bures for the way in which they played, and also for the fairness and the spirit in which the game was played.
Boxted vs. Cavaliers - Boxted won by 8 Wickets
Boxted won the toss and elected to bat away at 10 man Cavaliers. With Gilbert and Harris taking the new ball bowling tightly until Gilbert took the first wicket in the fifth over. Harris then removed the dangerous Gilhouly cheaply in the tenth. Both bowlers continued to bowl tightly taking 2-31 and 2-11 respectively. With Francis and Khaira continuing the good work with the ball each picking up 2 wickets leaving Cavaliers on 95 with just the final wicket to take. The final pair saw out the final overs seeing Cavaliers to 144 in the 45 overs.
Boxted started slowly before loosing Rishworth for 1. This brought Springett to join Gilbert at the wicket with the pair adding 106 for the second wicket before Springett fell for 52 shortly after making his maiden first team 50. With Rich joining the undefeated Gilbert the pair wrapped up a comfortable 8 wicket victory with Gilbert ending on 65 not out and Rich on 8.

Matt Francis played some solid stroke before playing on for 14. Stairmand and Matt Wilson batted steadily adding 82 before Matt like his brother Jon was run out for 27. Stairmand having anchored the Boxted innings was finally dismissed for a superb 74before Boxted where eventually all out for 226.
Boxted started their fielding effort relatively brightly with openers Harris and Gilbert taking a wicket apiece within 5 overs. Unfortunately for the away side things went downhill from there with a poor performance from the bowlers and a below par fielding display. With both Baddow batsmen being dropped, the home side made it to an easy 8 wicket victory. A disappointed Boxted side will look to get back to winning ways in the plate after a week off next weekend.
Boxted v Little Bardfield Village - Boxted lost by 6 wickets.
10 man Boxted travelled to Little bardfield and elected to bat on an undulating track. Loosing Francis in the second over they did not start well with the indifferent bock playing havock witht h eBoxted batting line up. Loosing the top 4 cheeply it was left to Springett with 20, Pearce with 17 and an undefeated 28 from Boker to lift the Boxted score. The highlight of the innings was a resolut defence provided by Dell who then swung across the line to go LBw for 11 with Boxted dismissed for a poor 120.
WithBoxteds opening bowlers being hit out of the attack very quickly Khaira and Francis both claimed 2 wickets each with Dell taking a good high catch. This was not enough however to prevent Bardfield from claiming an easy home victory in what was a dissapointing performance all round from Boxted.
