Boxted V Earls Colne and Bures 2nd August - Plate QF - Boxted won by 45 runs.

Having raised 11 players only hours before the start of the game Boxted where asked to bat by the visiting side on a wet wicket following heavy overnight rain. Openers Booker and Pearce started slowly with the ball often stopping in the pitch due to the rain. With Pearce falling for 12 soon to be followed by Booker for 4 Gilbert was left to form a 4th wicket partnership with Harris of 28 before Gilbert fell for 47 caught at mid wicket. Harris continued to perceiver with the Hangover gang of Carter, Matt Wilson and Graham Dell all Falling for single figures. This however brought the fireworks of Andy Wilson to the crease who was quickly into his stride. Wilson started to flay the Earls Colne bowling to all parts with Harris taking a back seat. This came to an end however when the explosive Wilson was run out (like many before him) by Harris’s tip and run tactics for an enterprising 19. The final member of the hangover gang was Michael Dell who ran himself out having hit the ball straight to cover. Hornsby came in with Harris who then fell for 41 with Boxted all out for 170.

After tea, Gilbert and Pearce lead the Boxted attack on a drying wicket. Earls Colne got off to a brisk start before Pearce got one to nip back at the left hander and take the off stump in the sixth over. Gilbert soon joined the party claiming 2 wickets in his fourth over. With Pearce then claiming a caught and bowled and an LBW the opening pair set Boxted on their way, Gilbert finishing with 2-20 and Pearce 3-31. Michael Dell, now on the road to recovery, bowled seven economical overs with Harris completing his ten after fifteen the previous day. Harris claimed a caught and bowled chance but did not have any luck thereafter with three chances going down and regularly missing the edge and stumps. With things looking tight the introduction of Mike ‘the bunny killer’ Booker to the attack in what seem to be his customary bowling at the tail roll. With the scent of easy wickets booker took a sharp caught and bowled and bowling 2 more to end up with tidy figures of 4-14 off seven and a half overs allowing Boxted to progress with a 45 run win. The performance was a good team effort with a side stripped of several regular players due to unavailability.
